Large crowds turned out for another fantastic event run by the Langrish motorcycle club and the Lambert family at the spectacular circuit near Petersfield, Hampshire.
Under a clear blue sky and hot sunshine, Stephen Sword won his first solo Ken Hall trophy. Riding a 450 KTM, he was unstoppable on the MX1 bike, even the absent Josh Coppins may have struggled to compete with the great Scott.
The days events started with a new format ‘dash for cash’ race, which saw the top 12 qualifiers compete in a four rider one lap elimination race. This decided the three rider line up for the final one lap race, competing for a £400 first place prize. This allowed Sword to open his account for the day, taking the win and the money from Neville Bradshaw and Mattis Karro.
In the first moto, Sword’s pace was exceptional and only Elliot Banks Browne and Billy Mackenzie looked as if they may contest for the lead but were unable to catch him before the flag.
In the second moto, Sword once again dominated the race, pulling a 12 second gap, until he crashed in the closing stages allowing Scott Columb to take the lead. However, Sword was quick to remount and chase him down, regaining the lead and again reaching the flag first.
In the third moto Martin Barr took the hole shot, but it wasn’t long before Sword took charge and left the rest of the field battling for second place. Barr and Banks Browne showed good pace but never looked like catching Sword.
Ken Hall sidecar trophy
With the club looking to hold a round of the sidecar World championship here on April 18th 2010, it was no surprise to see a strong international presence contesting the sidecar race.
It was the Latvian pair, Maris Rupeiks and Haralds Kurpnieks who dominated all three motos, leading from the gate to the flag each time. Fellow Latvian’s, James and Laurts Daiders took second overall and the British outfit of Stuart Brown and Luke Peters finished third after a mixed day.
